This is one of the most common questions I get from couples—and it’s such an important one!
The Notice of Intended Marriage, or NOIM for short, is a legal form that tells the government: “Hey, we’re planning to get married!” And here’s the key part: it must be lodged with your celebrant at least one month before your wedding day.
So, if you’re planning to get married on 15 November, I’ll need your NOIM by 15 October—no later!
You can also lodge it early—up to 18 months before your big day. So if you like to get things sorted well ahead of time, we can get this step ticked off early.
I’ll walk you through everything when we meet. You just bring your documents, and I’ll take care of the rest!

When we catch up to do your paperwork, one of the key steps is checking your ID and legal documents. It’s a simple part of the process—but super important to make sure your marriage is valid.

“Once we’ve chosen a celebrant, do we still need to submit paperwork to the government ourselves?”
The short answer is: No—you don’t.
Your Celebrant Takes Care of the Legal Lodgement
As an authorised celebrant in Australia, it’s my legal responsibility to manage and lodge all your marriage documentation with the relevant state registry.
