As a Civil Marriage Celebrant in Perth, I work with couples to create wedding ceremonies that reflect their relationship, personalities, families and cultural backgrounds. Registered marriage celebrants are also subject to a professional Code of Practice covering matters including service standards, document accuracy, privacy, legal compliance and providing couples with guidance about creating their ceremony.
While every wedding is different, the legal marriage process generally follows several key stages.
Your marriage must be solemnised by an authorised marriage celebrant.
We'll first discuss your wedding plans, ceremony style, location, date and any cultural or language requirements.
You generally need to provide your celebrant with a completed Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) at least one month before your wedding and no more than 18 months beforehand.
The NOIM can now be witnessed in person or, subject to the applicable requirements, remotely by audio-visual communication.
